Tips For Success

  • Strong coffee addicts will want to use a dark roast (strength 5).
  • Choose decaf ground coffee when you want iced coffee with none of the caffeine.
  • You may need to dilute the concentrate a bit more if you use regular coffee with caffeine.
  • To make the best coffee, start with the best fresh coffee beans and grind them just before using.
  • Alternatively, use your favorite ground coffee beans from the store.
  • The more finely ground the beans are, the cloudier the resulting iced coffee concentrate.
  • I find that coarsely ground coffee is easier to strain.
  • The coffee grounds will settle at the bottom of the Instant Pot, so don’t shake the insert at the end. Just carefully pour out the coffee concentrate, and the majority will remain at the bottom of the insert.

Straining Your Instant Pot Coffee Concentrate

There are a few options to strain your iced coffee concentrate.

  • Coffee Filter – simply pour through a coffee filter that is placed in a funnel. This might take a while due to the size of the coffee filters.
  • French Press – just add it in the French press and press down the plunger. Then pour out the iced coffee concentrate.
  • Cheesecloth – pouring it out over a cheesecloth or muslin placed over a larger sieve which will work much faster.
  • Cheesecloth bag in the Instant Pot – I have seen discussions where folks put the ground coffee in a cheesecloth bag inside the Instant Pot, rather than directly in the insert. I have not tried it myself, but this will be much quicker as no draining is needed. Please let me know if you try it.

Prep Ahead and Storage

  • Prep Ahead – This is such a great meal prep solution! Make a batch (or two) in advance and use it up throughout the week.
  • Storage – Keep in an airtight container inside the fridge for up to 7 days.
  • To Freeze – turn the concentrate into coffee ice cubes! Use silicon ice cube trays so that you can easily pop out your ice cubes when needed. Make a batch, pop it out into a freezer bag, and make the next batch.

Variations

Now for the fun part: the gazillion and one ways you can flavor your iced coffee.

  • You can add flavoring directly into the Instant Pot during cooking. Such as cardamom, cinnamon, and vanilla.
  • You can serve this poured over vanilla ice cream, or other ice cream flavors for a decadent treat.
  • Add your favorite syrups, grated spices, and sweeteners. Some of my choices are; hazelnut syrup, pumpkin pie spiced syrup, caramel syrup, and French vanilla syrup.
